In 1985, Bob LeBlanc introduced a unique flushing-style roach spray — a formula unlike anything else on the market. 

The first consumer test was a friend that was dealing with a used lounge chair so infested with roaches it couldn't be sat in, so Bob brought a can inside, sprayed the chair and around the room in cracks and crevices, and what happened next became Bengal lore.

Roaches poured out of walls, cracks, and crevices — flushed from every hiding place imaginable — and within hours, every last one was dead on the floor. The spray had just out-performed a professional exterminator.

Bob knew immediately he was holding something special.

From a Hardware Store Sign to a Trademark

Bob produced the first cases, slapped on a label that read Bengal Roach Spray, and propped a hand-written sign outside Gonzales Hardware Store:

"Guaranteed Roach Extermination Overnight."

It sold out in days.

In February 1986, Bengal was officially trademarked — and a Louisiana family business was born.

Forty years later, Bengal is headquartered right where it started: Baton Rouge, Louisiana — the heart of bug country, in the south. That zip code isn't a coincidence; it's a competitive advantage. Our customers live with the toughest pests in America, and they hold us to the toughest standard.

From that single can, Bengal has grown into the South's premier DIY insecticide brand, with distribution in every major and minor retail channel — big-box, hardware co-ops, grocery, farm & ranch, and independents. What started on a hardware store shelf in Gonzales now sits on shelves nationwide and in many countries.
